POST-PRODUCTION – REFLECTION

21st Century Skills

Ways of Thinking (Creativity, Innovation, Critical Thinking, Problem Solving)

During this production session, my team problem solved and thought critically about our time management. We had two new team members and had to problem solve when it came to everyone having a chance to participate. We were creative and innovative when it came to trying to foreshadow certain events with little dialogue.

Ways of Working (Communication & Collaboration)

Our team did a fairly good job communicating considering the fact that we had two new team members. It was a little hard to collaborate and communicate at times because of the fact that there were just more people than usual which meant more ideas. But overall, we successfully communicated and collaborated to create a completed film.

Tools for Working (Info & Media Literacy)

For this specific production session, we used Bruce Block’s The Visual Story as a reference to complete our goals for this session. Our group also used Premiere Pro for editing, the boom mic for sound, and Google Drive to organize our media.

Ways of Living in the World (Life & Career)

This session helped me work on my communication and collaboration skills which will benefit me in the future in my career and everyday life. This session also taught me more about the importance of time management and simplifying things when needed to cut time.

Reactions to the Final Version

“I really liked the shot where you went around the detective and ended looking over the detective’s shoulder. I think it did a good job of showing the audience that something was being discovered and added to the intensity of the scene. “

– James

“I think the wide-angle shot where the detective is approaching Chris was a creative way of using deep space to evoke intensity”

-James

Self-Evaluation of Final Version

Our film was successful due to the fact that it was simple, unexpected, emotional, and concrete. Our idea was simple and easy for viewers to follow along. It was unexpected and emotional due to the suspense and climactic ending. The film was also concrete because it successfully used sensory language to create a memorable feeling for viewers.

What I Learned and Problems I Solved

Some problems I solved were setting up the investigation scene when our “murder board” got taken down the day of production, making sure everyone had participation in the production process, dealing with a slow start to production, and not enough time to film scenes. None of these things were detrimental but they definitely helped me learn more about the importance of time management; all of these issues wouldn’t be as much of an issue had we had a little bit better time management. I now understand the importance of productive pre-production.
